There are now more than 7 billion humans inhabiting planet Earth.  

With a surface area of 198 million square miles, there are  35.35 people per square mile of Earth surface, 
including the oceans, deserts and  and polar regions.

Approximately 3/4 of the globe is covered by ocean, so land masses bear 141 people per square mile.

That's an individual land space of a square 445 feet per side. Hello neighbor.

Breathable air extends approximately 5 miles up from the surface, 
so when operating your car, electricity and using manufactured goods, 

the pollution you create and use is filling your personal air space of a square 888 feet on a side and 5 miles high. 

Take a deep breath.

Each human person benefits from the opportunity of the longest nurturing period of all species.

Individuals of simpler species may be left to develop entirely by instinct , 
may receive a few weeks months or years nuturing in a nest, flock or herd.

Lizards do not nurture their young at all.                Bird chicks are nurtured for several weeks.

               Elephants are nurtured for several years.         Human young may receive the wisdom of the ages.

Humans are the only species to have developed symbolic images and written language.

Individual nurturing can now be counted not in weeks, months or years, but in millennia.

 Some Rules to Live By

1) The Golden Rule.    Do to others what you want them to do to you.
    corollary: Do not dehumanize the other. No tribalism, superstition or xenophobia.

2) No Bullshit.   Eliminate the false and the useless from what you hear, say and do.
    corollary: Work to overcome ignorance in yourself and others. Don't be a fool.

3) Make an Honest Effort.  "I can't" never does anything. You don't know until you've tried.
    corollary: Be self reliant, but allow yourself to be helped if you have given your best effort.

4) Compassion.  Have mercy on the less fortunate, suffering and defenseless.
    This is really a corollary of the Golden Rule, but important enough to stand alone. However, don't be the fool of those who would take advantage of you.

5) Educate yourself.  Obtain a broad information and experience base. Knowledge is power and ignorance weakness. This is a corollary of the No Bullshit rule, but important enough to bear repeating.
